Hello again! Today, I summarized 'Educational Experience' with a few paragraphs. :) 🙋
How to make distant education more attractive for students?
There is a framework whose
umbrella term is educational experience. This umbrella concept refers to combination
of the four following points. If we, as teachers, do not integrate technology
and media in our teaching, lessons will be dull and meaningless.
One of the points we have
just mentioned is social presence. In online education, every students is
somewhere else, in different places in contrast to being in a real classroom
together with their friends. In order to enhance the effectiveness of the
lesson, we should make students feel together. With this purpose, we can design
or search for different warm up activities which enable students to feel their
togetherness. Warm ups can be sometimes ice breaking questions, games and
communicatice activities.
Here is the transactional
presence. Students should feel be able to relate their feeling with the
classmates. Relatable feelings are important in their learning journeys. In the
online classes, instead of sitting and listening passively, students should
create information for their own learning. After creating the information, they
should present their ideas, opinions to the class, so that they can share
information with others. In this way, exchanging the information becomes more
meaningful because of information being their own product.
Another point that I
would like to highlight is cognitive presence. Cognitive presence means being
in the task. Fundamental goal here is to construct internal (monitoring, reflection..)
and external (colloboration, management..) constructions that is necessary in
learning effectively with the help of internet and technology. In this way,
students perform communicative tasks, exchange informations and opinions.Hence,
students participate lessons and try to be more active, which maintains the
curiosity for the subject.
The last but not least
term is teaching presence which includes processes such as designing,
facilitating. Teachers design tasks, plan lessons, create contents for the class.
They are expected to bring new activities and tasks to the class in order not
to bore students with the same activity again and again. While designing and creating,
teacher should be careful about the load of the information. They should not
cognitively overload students because if they do so, they will hinder learning.
